The March 2015 Birchbox theme was creativity.

Elite Therapeutics Rosemary Eucalyptus Body Creme
Sample size 14ml
Sample value $1.12US

Birchbox says – ‘Luxe hydrator that nourishes and soothes skin with 70% organic ingredients. Smooth generously onto skin after showering, or anytime you need a moisture boost.’

I thought this was a very Australian bush smelling body creme. It’s not Australian though, it’s made in the US. I quite enjoyed this body moisturiser.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product
Sample size 2oz
Sample value $9US

Birchbox says – ‘This 10-in-one treatment addresses the spectrum of hair damage, from brittleness to frizz. Smooth one to two spritzes into dry hair with your hands, then style. Use more for wet hair.’

Because I have thick her that loves to get knots in it and be frizzy pretty much all the time. When I see these kinds of products in my Birchbox I get super excited. This product made me happy, it smells quite nice and did make my hair feel a bit nicer.

Jelly Pong Pong Glow Getter Highlighter
Sample size 4ml
Sample value $12.75US

Birchbox says – ‘This weightless gel formula gives a suble, pearlescent shimmer. Dab onto cheekbones and brow bones – then glow get ’em!’

My last experience with this brand hadn’t gone done too well, I had a chubby lip pencil that just seemed to smudge everywhere. It wasn’t very pleasant. This however brightened my day. I found it best as a highlighter under my brow bones. It really did brighten up my eyes and it’s been added into my daily make-up routine. Note though, that a little goes a long way!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
Sample size 15ml
Sample value $3.75US

Birchbox says – ‘British award-winner that uses a two step ritual to gently purify all skin types. Massage into skin. Soak muslin cloth with hot water, then wipe off in small circles.’

What a nice way to cleanse my face I felt like I’d been to the day spa. First massaging it in and then removing it with a hot cloth. So simple and yet relaxing. This cleanser Rosemary and Eucalyptus as well. I’m not sure if this is a new beauty trend? It’s the second product in the box to include these ingredients.

Roloxin Lift Revialising Facial Masque Treatment
Sample size 2 packs
Sample value $22US

Birchbox says – ‘This treatment instantly reduces the look of wrinkles and pores, and lasts up to 24 hours. Squeeze for 20 seconds then smooth onto damp face, avoiding eyes. Wait 7 minutes and rinse.’

For me this is probably a bit too long of a process to do every morning. Waiting 7 minutes with a face mask on! However to my surprise it did work quite nicely to minimise the small crease lines on my forehead and the pores on my nose. It’s also a little bit pricey but definitely worth it for those special occasions when you want to look your very best e.g. a wedding ;-)

How much does it cost?

Birchbox costs $10US a month. I signed up for a 12 month subscription of $110US, you get one month free and it works out $9.16US a month

I use Shipito to ship the box from the US to Australia. This months shipping cost was $6.33 using airmail economy.

TOTAL COST $15.49US (on today’s dollar that makes it $20.17 Aussie dollars)

Was it worth it?

Birchbox is one of my favourite subscription boxes. This month was great because I discovered a totally cool face mask that I’ll use to look fabulous at my wedding as well as a new cleanser, hair spray-in treatment, moisturiser and a brow higlighter. These are all products that have brightened my week and were in line with the kinds of products that I need and use on a daily basis. My box value was really high at nearly $50US.

Birchbox review – February 2015

I always love to see the Birchbox parcel waiting at my post office box.

This month’s theme was friendship and it came in a orange and hot pink box.

The products

Benefit Cosmetics Posiebalm
Sample size 0.5 grams
Sample value $3US

Birchbox says – ‘This mango butter balm hydrates lips and provides a wash of sheer, just-right pink. Sweep onto bare lips, or over your favourite Benefit tint for instant moisture.

Yay! I love Benefit and I’ve been wanting to try this colour. I already own it in two other colours Benebalm and Lollibalm. So I know I am onto a winner with this.

Davines MINU Shampoo
Sample size 75ml
Sample value $7.50US

Birchbox says – ‘Richly foaming wash that gently cleanses hair and safeguards color. Massage generously into wet hair. Rinse well, and follow with color-safe conditioner.’

I’m always happy to see hair products in my Birchbox. I love that this smells like citrus. It makes washing my hair even more pleasant.

Davines MINU Hair Serum
Sample size 6ml
Sample value 0.94US

Birchbox says – ‘Bonus item – This citrusy-fresh formula protects hair color and boosts shine.’

A bonus hair serum is always a good thing in my book!

Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Shower Gel
Sample size 1 oz
Sample value $2US

Birchbox says – ‘Rich in antioxidants, this paraben-free cleanser leaves skin soft and lightly moisturised. Squeeze onto loofah or washcloth, and work into a rich lather. Apply to skin, then rinse.’

This shower gel reminds me of being in a super posh hotel. Which is a nice feeling in my quaint little bathroom.

Harvey Prince Hello
Sample size 1.5ml guesstimation
Sample value $4.43US

Birchbox says – ‘Best-selling spritz that mingles cheerful citrus with floral notes. Well, hello there! Apply to pulse points and let this upbeat scent do the talking.’

I don’t wear perfume all that often but this is a nice cheerful scent. It’s sweet and fruity, perhaps a bit too sweet for everyday wear although it does soften throughout the day.

Marcelle Gentle Make-up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
Sample size 50ml
Sample value $5US

Birchbox says – ‘Hypoallergenic formula that’s tough on even long-lasting makeup, but gentle on the eyes. Dispense onto cotton ball and wipe eyes to remove liner, shadow, and mascara.’

I actually needed a new eye makeup remover so I am happy to give this one a whirl.

How much does it cost?

Birchbox costs $10US a month. I signed up for a 12 month subscription of $110US, you get one month free and it works out $9.16US a month

I use Shipito to ship the box from the US to Australia. This months shipping cost was $26.81 USPS Priority Mail. It cost quite a lot more this month as you can’t ship perfume by airmail economy. Sigh… So I don’t really like getting perfume samples.

TOTAL COST $35.97US (on today’s dollar that makes it $46.40 Aussie dollars)

Was it worth it?

I am a huge fan of Birchbox. Each month it is nicely packaged and presented and I get useful items. This was a good month for me as it was very practical – lip balm, shampoo, shower gel, perfume and eye makeup remover. All good daily products. It’s good to try different daily products to reinvigorate yourself and experience new things. It really does brighten my day trying new beauty products!

This month I received $22.87US worth of products. Value wise this would be good value if I didn’t have to ship it to Australia using USPS due to perfume in the package. It would be great if Birchbox had an option where you could choose no perfume.

Birchbox review – January 2015

Hooray time to review one of my favourite subscriptions Birchbox!

This month’s theme was in sync with the New Year – ‘2015. Let’s do this.’

I’m loving the new look colourful boxes each month. This month’s was so bright and happy. I was also excited to see that they added a cute adjective in front of my name on the shipping address it read to ‘Purposeful Prue’.

The products

Curly Hair Solutions, Curl Keeper Gel
Sample size 30ml
Sample value $2.99US

Birchbox says – ‘Water-based, never-crunchy formula that fends off frizz and leaves curls sleek and shiny. After styling, apply a small amount of gel to hair. To reactivate, smooth with wet hands.’

I am looking forward to trying this. I am always on the look out for a solution to keep my hair frizz free and tamed.

Karma Organic Spa, Soybean and Tea Tree Oil Nail Polish remover

Birchbox says – ‘ Nontoxic formula that dissolves polish while strengthening nails and cuticles. Soak a cotton ball with the remover, and swipe over polish.’

Unfortunately I had to get this product removed from my box as you can’t ship nail polish remover from the US to Australia. I thought it might be possible to ship as it is nontoxic but I guess it’s still flamable?

Manna Kadar Lip Locked – All of You
Sample size 0.5 grams
Sample value 0.20 cents

Birchbox says – ‘All-in-one primer, stain and gloss that’s loaded with vitamins and berry extracts. Sweep onto lips for long-lasting, no fuss-color.’

A nice natural colour that looks pretty fab on me. However I don’t find it super long lasting. If I put it on in the morning it seems to be mostly all gone after my morning tea.

Paula’s Choice RESIST Moisture Renewal Oil Booster
Sample size 3.5ml
Sample value $6.12US

Birchbox – ‘Made with nine plant oils, this perfect-for-dry-skin blend fights redness and irritation. Smooth 2 – 3 drops over clean face, or add to your favourite moisturizer or serum.’

For me this is a nice night time product. During the day I found it a bit oily. It comes with a little eye dropper. I’m not a fan of these as I’m a bit clumsy and often drop and break them.

Whish Three Whishes Body Butter – Lavender
Sample size 22ml
Sample value $3.52US

Birchbox says – ‘Lusicous, antioxidant-rich formula that firms, softens, and smoothes. Smooth onto skin after showering. A little goes a long way!

Yay! I love the Whish brand and I also love lavender so this is a good item for me. It smells really nice and makes my skin feel nice.

How much does it cost?

Birchbox costs $10US a month. I signed up for a 12 month subscription of $110US, you get one month free and it works out $9.16US a month

I use Shipito to ship the box from the US to Australia. This months shipping cost was $9.74 US using Airmail Economy. It cost a little bit more this month as Shipito charged a fee for taking out the nail polish remover.

TOTAL COST $18.90US (on today’s dollar that makes it $24.24 Aussie dollars)

Was it worth it?

I enjoyed this box as I liked having a new lip gloss shade, Whish is one of my fave brands for body products and I like trying new natural face products. For me, without the nail polish remover it wasn’t the best valued box, as it came to a value of $12.83. But if you live in the US you wouldn’t have had that problem and you would have received more value than you spent.

Birchbox is one of my favourite subscriptions and I am looking forward to getting my February box!

The Birchbox December 2014 box arrived in a beautiful blue box with gold detailing. It was such a nice box to open. The theme was ‘Decked out’ to tie in with Christmas.

Birchbox says – ‘Formula with all-day wear for lashes so long and thick, you may be accused of fakery. Gentle wiggle the wand from the roots to the tips of lashes.’

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre
Sample size 5ml
Sample value $2.66US

Birchbox says – ‘A makeup artist fave, this French moisturizer heals dryness and preps skin for foundation. Smooth onto face and neck. Or try unexpected ways to use it at’

The French are so elegant and put together. If this is renowned in France than it is good enough for me! The moisturiser is nice and creamy, and I have been enjoying using this. According to the video you can also use it as an eye makeup remover. I’ll have to give that a go!

Essential Elements Wake Up Rosemary Body Gel
Sample size 45 ml
Sample value $3.56US

Birchbox says – ‘Luxe cleanser that infuses skin with nourishing honey and softening rosemary and mint oils. Massage onto damp skin with a washcloth or loofah to generate lather. Rinse clean.’

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Paris
Sample size 1.7 grams
Sample value $7.04US

Birchbox says – ‘Velvety color with a modern matte finish. No need for lip liner: This stain stays put. Glide wand over lips. Wear as is for bright color, or blot for a subtler look.’

Wow! I don’t think I have ever tried a lip colour with this much staying power. It set quickly, was long lasting and bright. I’d like to try it in another colour though as the Paris is pretty intense. I’m also pretty impressed that this is an Australian brand.

Yes!! This was a great box for me. Everything in it made me super happy and was useable right away. The value of products was almost double what I spent, including the costs of shipping it from the US to Australia. So really that’s like getting great stuff that you love for 50%.

Birchbox says – ‘A long-wearing stain from the NYC-based designer that gives unbeatable moisture and shine. Sweep over lips for a sheer, perfect-for-fall red color. Layer on for a deeper shade.’

I wore this on Christmas Day and I thought it looked very festive. I liked the creamy feel. It stained my lips a little bit but not as much as my Benefit stain does. It was long lasting but had to be reapplied after eating.
