Australian subscription box discount codes and Her Fashion Boxette news

Well, I hope you love a bargain as much as I do šŸ˜‰

Below is a wrap up of the latest discount codes and also some Her Fashion Box news.

Discount codes

Native Box

During August 2013 Native Box have a special discount code that will get you your first box for $10 or $5 off any subscription. Use the code $5OFF at the check out to apply the discount.Ā

I just got my second box today. I haven’t opened it yet. It’s a reward for crossing a few things off of my ‘to-do’ list! If you are interested to see what is inside a typical Native Box read my July Native Box review.Ā

Violet Box

Use code VIOLETBOX10 to save $10 off of your first Violet Box. This will make your first box $12.95 instead of $22.95. If you’d like to get an idea for what has been in previous Violet Boxes read my June and July Violet Box reviews.

Whenever I find discount codes I will add them to my Subscription box coupons / discount codes page.Ā  That way they are all together in one place. If you find a code or a code doesn’t work please let me know.

Box news

While looking at the Her Fashion Box website I stumbled across the fact that they are now offering a mini version of the box! You can choose the regular Her Fashion Box for $39.95 or you can get the Her Fashion Boxette for $24.95. The difference is that the Boxette has one less fashion item, two less less beauty items and it doesn’t seem to come with the Her Fashion magazine. I’m tempted but I think I would have box envy of what I missed out on in the full box! Excited to see the first Boxette though.

Violet Box review – August 2013

Violet Box review – August 2013

My Violet Box arrived a week after I saw a few other people post about it. So I had to avoid reading the posts so mine would be a surprise!

The Products

Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 Shadow/Liner Bronze
Sample size 2.8 grams
Sample value $18.30

Violet Box says – ‘A uniquely formulated crayon that doubles as an eyeliner for thick, precise lines as well as a perfectly-blended eye shadow. The exclusive combination of Italian-formulated waxes and pigments allows you to build up the colour, smudge or create bold lines quickly and easily.’

I received the ‘Bronze’ liner. For me this is a bit of a miss as I don’t really use liner and I don’t like brown eye shadows. So I will be gifting this to a friend.

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush Cranberry
Sample size 2.5 grams
Sample value $20.90

Violet Box says – ‘A moisturizing lip stain that tints your lips with just the right amount of juicy colour and hydrates like a balm, Apply liberally, purse and let the silky lightweight texture melt onto your lips. BONUS: Made with beeswax and ceresin wax for a sheer, smooth application.’

I was super excited to see this. I’ve just run out of my Benefit lip stain posie tint so I thought this could be an excellent replacement. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to stain my lips. It goes on really creamy and silky, then just sits there. It slides around like a lip gloss no staining at all…

Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser
Sample size 5ml
Sample value $14.50

Violet Box says – ‘NOW with increased enzymes and hyaluronic acid. Dr Bragi’s patented formula combines his unique, ‘super active’ marine enzymes with the added hydrating and plumping abilities of hyaluronic acid. This versatile facial moisturiser helps to reduce the signs of ageing by fighting the effects of environmental stress.’

This goes on like an oil or serum. It feels nice. However you are supposed to wait 15 minutes before applying make-up so that throws my routine out a little. I’ve tried it for the last few days. No noticable difference to my skin as yet.

ghd Style Heat Protection Spray
Sample size 120ml
Sample value $24

Violet Box says – ‘Provides an invisible barrier against everyday heat damage on damp or dry hair. Containing the unique ghd Heat Protection System, this spray can be layered with other styling products to create the result you desire. Best for protecting against the heat of hairdryers, stylers and tongs while leaving hair with a ‘no product’ feel.’

Ohhh such pretty packaging. I will be trying this one out.

Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair Cream Shampoo and Rich Repair Anti-Breakage Conditioner
Sample size 2 x 10ml foil packets (one shampoo and one conditioner)
Sample value $1.40

Violet Box says – ‘Repair your hair from the inside out with the Dualsenses Rich Repair range. Using the most advanced technologies and customised ingredients to combat dry, stressed hair forever, even a single application can deliver softer, healthier-looking hair.’

Nice shampoo and conditioner set. I think I’ll get three washes out of this set, as long as it doesn’t dry up in the opened foil packets! Although I am still very much in love with the Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect that I received in my July Birchbox.

How much does it cost?

Violet Box costs $22.95 a month. If you subscribe for a longer period you also get Violet Points which you can use in the Violet Box Store.

  • A three month subscription will get you 400 Violet Points.
  • A six month subscription will get you 1000 Violet Points.
  • A year subscription will get you 2500 Violet Points.

Was it worth it?

This is the third Violet Box and like the two previous boxes before, it had 6 products in it.

The value of the box was just under $80. So it is value for money. I just didn’t feel like I received anything I loved this month. I wanted to love the Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush but it has no staying power. Sigh, first world problems..

Violet Box review – July 2013

Violet Box review – July 2013

Well it felt like it took forever to get here! My Violet Box finally arrived on Monday and I had managed to avoid everyone’s unboxing posts so that it would be a surprise for me.

The box…

The outside box looks a bit faded but I am loving the inner box with it’s cute ribbon. The inner box also has a magnetic clip underneath the ribbon. Making it that bit more special!

First look…

and under the tissue paper.

The products

Sample size 4 ML
Sample value $18
Violet Box says – ‘A reflective, shimmering lip gloss that creates a glamorous, lacquered effect for the lips. Non-sticky formula glides on evenly, leaving your lips with a luscious, long lasting shine and lustre. Super sleek and super slender, SHINE Ultra Lip Gloss’ tall thin bottle fits into the slimmest of evening bags and comes handy with a smart inbuilt mirror.’
This smells delicious. Reminds me of the watermelon flavoured lip smacker I used to wear as a kid.
It is a little sticky on. But has a nice sparkle to it. The thin size of the bottle makes it great for your handbag and the mirror is a cute bonus.
Sample size 3 ML (There was no indication on the bottle, so I had to guess)
Sample value $13.99
Violet Box says – ‘Contains the most powerful micronised herbal extracts. A daily anti-ageing treament creme designed for the delicate eye area that contains natural multi vitamins and powerful antioxidants to help fight fine lines, reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffy eyes.’
The cute little container gives the impression it contains more creme than it actual does. However it will probably last quite a few time as I only use a tiny bit of eye cream underneath each eye. I have tried it for four days so far. It feels thick when it goes on but then it absorbs in. I’m not sure if I like it as much as the Super Goop I received from BirchBox but I am going to give it a few more days.
Sample size 7 grams x two tubes
Sample value $31.50
Violet Box says – ‘Eyes and Brow Long and Deep Mascara is lengtheing the lashes and water resistant, but comes off with ease when cleansed. Particularly suitable for sensitive eyes, containing ALlantoin, Vitamin B5 and E which relieves irritation, repair damage and hydrate. Comes with a bonus refill.’
I have sensitive eyes and this product was great. It didn’t affect them at all. Looked glam and came off easily. Thumbs up! I liked this product way better than last month’s Clear Mascara.
Although as a few other reviewers have posted, I am unsure about the bonus refill. If I am using the same brush, I’m spreading germs from one mascara tube to the other…
Sample size 1 gram x two colour pots
Sample value $15 each
Violet Box says – ‘ Natural | Non-Toxic | Organic | Australian. For women on the go conscious of a cleaner and greener lifestyle. Every day glamour is no longer bland! Create a mood with our range of toxic free natural and versatile colours. Adorn… Look Good and Feel Better… Naturally!’
I love the idea behind this product – natural, non-toxic, organic and Australian. I’m not sure if my jasper pot is labelled correctly because on the website it looks purple but the colour I have is a shimmery gold. I think perhaps I have coral pearl… I’m not complaining though because lighter colours work heaps better on me. Dark colours on my eyes usually make me look like I went a round in a boxing ring. I haven’t tried these yet but hopefully I will in the next day or so.
Sample size 50 ML
Sample value $12.48
Violet Box says – ‘This award winning Self Tan Bronzing Mousse is a super-lightweight, easy to apply, velvety mousse that delivers an ultra-even tan. Infused with Aloe Vera and long lasting colour, it will leave you with a natural-looking, healthy bronze glow. Dries in 60 seconds. Paraben free. Oil free.’
I used to be really in to self tanning moisturisers and then I just kind of stopped. I think I saw some photos of myself and realised I was looked a little too orange… However that was ages ago and I am happy to give this a go. I like the fact that it dries in 60 seconds.

Was it worth it?

This is the second ever Violet Box and like the first box it had 6 products in it. My favourite product was the lip gloss. Although I still need to try the eye shadows and bronzing mousse. I liked that I could easily put three of the products into my daily routine straight away – the lip gloss, mascara and eye cream.

The value of the box was over $105. Which is more than the value of the first box!

I’m quite pleased with this box, it’s definitely value for money and I’m looking forward to next month.

Violet Box review June 2013

The first Violet Box was pretty exciting. I have never received the launch of a subscription box before so I was pretty excited.

It arrived liked this…

The box.

A box within a box.

First look…

and under the tissue paper.

The Products

Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser
Sample size 50 ML
Sample value $7.70

Violet Box says – ‘The Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser, has been specifically formulated for normal to combination sensitive skin. Based on only extra-gentle cleansing agents. It removes all traces of make-up form the face, eyes and lips, leaving skin soft and supple. It’s also soap free and hypoallergenic.’

What a great cleanser! I’ve been using this in combination with the Lierac Paris Concentre Mesolift Toning Radiance Serum that I got in my May Birch Box and my skin feels fantastic.

CK One Color Cosmetics, Gloss Eyecolor in 400 Vivid
Sample size
Sample value $25

Violet Box says – ‘Gloss eyecolor by CK One Color Cosmetics are soft sheen transparent color gloss pencils that are infinitely blendable, multi-tasking, spontaneous color.’

I’m actually not even sure that sentence makes sentence from Violet Box makes sense!

When I first got this, I thought it was a lip gloss and I was super excited. Than I realised it was a blue chubby eye pencil/crayon. Not so exciting. I saw that some people got this in a different shade. I would have much rather received the white (Ultra) or gold (Spin).

Image from Calvin Klein website. I broke mine šŸ™

Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty EDT
Sample size 1.2 ML
Sample value $1.90

Violet Box says – ‘Calvin Klen has launched a new edition of Beauty fragrance, named Sheer Beauty. The composition is floral – fruity, opening with notes of bergamot, red berries and peach Bellini. The perfume’s core includes flowers of peony, pink lily and jasmine. The base is velvety due to accords of sandalwood, musk and vanilla blossom.’

This smells really, really good. I was using it every day until I dropped the glass vial in the bathroom. It smashed into a zillion pieces. I couldn’t believe it. So sad šŸ™

John Plunkett Glyco Peel
Sample size 15 ML (full sized item)
Sample value $28.95

Violet Box says – ‘Clinical strength, night-time exfoliator with 25% glycolic acid in a buffered solution. Gently exfoliates skin surface removing old, dull surface skin cells. Reduces fine lines and surface discolouration, keeping skin looking clear, younger and refreshed.

I am too scared to use this. I have sensitive skin and I’m worried it will be too harsh on my skin. Sigh…

LashControl Clear Coat Control Mascara and Brow Fix
Sample size 8.87 ML (full sized item)
Sample value $25

Violet Box says – ‘Brought to you from NYC.. LashControl Clear Coat Control Mascara and Brow Fix (a.k.a “Clear Squeeze”) Clear coat formula for taming wayward brows, minus the “wet” look. And, it’s the perfect top coast to layer over your black mascara and seal in the pigment.’

This product is exclusive to Violet Box and was the New York product the Violet Box team hinted at.

I liked this when I used it as a brow tamer. I haven’t tried it as a layer over mascara yet. I have tried it as a clear mascara and thought that it just made my lashes look wet šŸ˜

Argania Hair Oil
Sample size 5 ML
Sample value $1.75

Violet Box says – Argania for hair is made with certified organic Moroccan Argan oil specially formulated to be rich in vitamins and antioxidants.’

I got the ‘Light’ version of this product which is for lightened, silver or fine hair. I have brown thick hair but that hasn’t stopped this product from being one of my favourites in the box. It smells delicious, makes my hair feel nice and gives it a glossy shine. I’ve been using this product to reduce fly-aways and add some shine to my hair. I like this way better than the Nexxus Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Elixir I got in my Welcome Birch Box.

How much does it cost?

Violet Box costs $22.95 a month. If you subscribe for a longer period you also get Violet Points which you can use in the Violet Box Store.

Was it worth it?

The first Violet Box had 6 products in it. Three of those products I really liked – the Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty perfume, Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser and Argania Hair Oil.

The value of the box was over $90. Which is great šŸ™‚ However I really only loved the three cheaper products! Which made the value for me, more like $11.35.

I’m excited to see what is instore in the July Violet Box (which hopefully I should get very soon!)
