Toddler Book Club – Halloween reads
Happy Halloween! Over the past month we have been reading and loving:
- Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler
- Baby Touch and Feel Halloween by DK
Room on the Broom
We have really enjoyed reading this book. It’s delightful to read, has a nice rhyme, it’s perfect for Halloween, is a bit scary (but not really!) and has a plot twist. It also features animals that are familiar to toddlers – dogs, birds, cats and frogs while introducing dragons and witches.

Her favourite word to say while reading this book is ‘wand’.
Note: It is quite a long book. I’d say the longest we’ve read but we do manage to read it through most of the time!
Baby Touch and Feel Halloween
Technically Chloe isn’t a baby anymore and this is Chloe’s second Halloween. However this book still worked a treat for a 20 – 21 month old toddler.
I like the real-life photos, as I think that is important way to help them identify and label the things that they see in the world.
When we get to the page with the wizard holding a wand, Chloe likes to go and get her own wand. Then we practice waving it around and saying ‘Abracadabra’ together.

We also have a treat bucket that she likes to carry around too!
Her favourite pages to touch are the ‘sticky green mixture’ and the kitty’s soft fur. We also talk about how the kitten is wearing a velvet hat at the end. She likes trying to say the last page ‘Happy Halloween Kitty’.
