Birchbox Review – May 2013

The box…

First look…

After seeing the information card I was pretty excited to see a lip gloss, perfume and tea in my box.

The products

FusionBeauty LipFusion Infatuation Lip Fattener ‘In The Flesh’
Sample size 2.5 grams
Sample value $13.18

Birchbox says – ‘This gloss is made with Amplifat technology that subtly plumps lips.’

This lip gloss comes in five different shades. I received ‘In The Flesh’. When I first saw the colour I was a little disappointed as it looked very brown. But when I tried it on it was quite neutral and pretty. Here is how it looks on…

This lip gloss is supposed to plump your lips. When I applied the lip gloss it felt cool and tingly as it worked it’s magic. It wasn’t uncomfortable it just felt a little odd at first.

FABULOUS Isaac Mizrahi Eau de Parfum
Sample size 1.5ML
Sample value $2.07

Birchbox says – ‘For his first scent, the designer created a fanciful blend of mandarin and jasmine laced with vanilla.’

I like this perfume and I can see myself using up the whole sample.

Lierac Paris Concentre Mesolift Toning Radiance Serum
Sample size 5ML
Sample value $10

Birchbox says – ‘This French serum hydrates skin, shrinks pores, and fights off wrkinles with potent antioxidants. Apply to clean skin morning and night, before moisturiser.

I’m excited to try this. I love anything French!

Supergoop! Advanced SPF 37 Anti-Aging Eye Cream
Sample size 2ML
Sample value  $6

Birchbox says – ‘At last: an eye cream with serious sun protection. Plus, the innovative formula has oat peptide complex to firm skin.’

I tried this yesterday and it seemed to work quite well. I really like that is has sunscreen in it. My eyes did look a bit brighter. I think I’ll need to keep testing it to see if I notice more improvements over time.

Mighty Leaf Tea
Sample size 3 tea bags
Sample value $1.99

Birchbox says – ‘We’re hooked on these hand-picked whole-leaf blends, which come in silken biodegradable pouches.

This was my lifestyle extra product and it made my day because I am a tea addict! I received three different flavours – Chamomile Citrus, Organic Earl Grey and Green Tea Tropical. I’m saving these to take into work during the week. For a little afternoon pep up!

How much does it cost?

Birchbox costs $10 a month. I signed up for a 12 month subscription using Shipito which cost me:

$110 for the 12 month Birchbox subscription (you get one month free)
$8.50 for the assisted purchase (they purchased it for me as a gift as Birchbox only accepts American credit cards)
$8.80 the Shipito 8% commission fee
$4.73 the Shipito bacnk fees
________________________
TOTAL $132.03

Which makes it $11 per box over the 12 months plus shipping. This months shipping cost $21.12. I could have chosen a cheaper option but I wanted to get the box a little quicker!

TOTAL COST $32.12 US

How long did it take to get to Australia?

The box was shipped from Birchbox on the 11 May 2013. It reached my Shipito Address on 16 May and was shipped to me the following day via USPS First Class International Parcel.

It arrived to me in Australia on Friday 7 June 2013 (16 business days) which was only two days faster than it took last month when I used the cheaper International Priority Airmail option. So the more expensive shipping option probably wasn’t worth it this time around.

Are these products available in Australia or through Australian suppliers?

This month 2 of the 5 items can be purchased in Australia or through an Australian supplier.

Was it worth it?

YES!! Once again I really enjoyed opening my Birchbox. All the products that I have got I will be able to use and I  wouldn’t have found them without Birchbox. Except for maybe the tea, I might have stumbled onto that one by myself at some point!

The total value of the products in the box was $34.24 and it cost me $32.12 (including shipping).

So I feel that this box was value for money 🙂

Please note – at the moment the Aussie dollar and the US dollar are reasonably close so when I convert it is about the same price. Which is why I didn’t bother too much about converting the price for all the products.
